Celebrate Historical Marker Weekend in Clinton County!
Join us for a special weekend dedicated to honoring and preserving the 13 historical markers located throughout Clinton County, Ohio. In celebration of National Historic Marker Day, we invite you to participate in a self-guided effort to clean and revitalize these important landmarks.
Event Details:
- Date: Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26
- Location: Various locations throughout Clinton County, Ohio (see list of markers and addresses below). If you need cleaning supplies or a guidebook, please start at the Clinton County History Center – 149 E. Locust Street, Wilmington.
How to Participate:
- Pick up a Cleaning Kit & Guidebook: Stop by the Clinton County History Center at 149 E. Locust Street, Wilmington OH 45177 on Fri. April 25th between 8:30-11:45AM or 12:45-4:30PM and Sat. April 26th from 10:00AM-2:00PM to pick up a free cleaning kit and a Historical Marker Guidebook.
- Choose Your Marker: Select one or more markers from the list provided in the guidebook.
- Clean & Explore: Visit your chosen marker(s), clean them using the provided supplies, and take some time to learn about the historical significance of the site.
- Share Your Experience: Post photos of your cleaning efforts and the markers you visit on social media using the hashtags #NationalHistoricMarkerWeekend or #NationalHistoricMarkerDay2025 in your posts. Don’t forget to tag the History Center and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.
Kid-Friendly Activities at the History Center:
Bring the whole family! The Clinton County History Center will be hosting kid-friendly activities during regular museum hours:
- Friday, April 25th: 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM
- Saturday, April 26th: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Activities will include marker-themed coloring sheets, crafts, and other engaging activities.
Marker Cleaning Kits (generously sponsored by ACE Hardware Wilmington) Include:

- Cloth Rags
- Sponge
- Non-Metal Scrub Brush
- Gloves
- Trash Bags
